When a karaoke video won’t play or embed
Sometimes Search finds a karaoke title, you queue it, and the player stays black — or YouTube shows an error instead of lyrics. That is usually not your Wi-Fi and not “VideoKe being down.” It is almost always embedding. This page is what to do in the next thirty seconds so the night continues.
Why embeds fail
VideoKe plays catalog tracks as embedded videos (YouTube-sourced karaoke uploads we cache metadata for). Some uploaders, or some videos, disallow embedding on other sites. In a room, that looks like an empty stage. The same link might play fine on youtube.com and still refuse to play inside VideoKe. Those are different permissions.
We also see region limits, removed videos, and accounts that changed a video from public to unlisted in a way that breaks the embed. The catalog can lag behind the live YouTube state. If we detect a player that cannot embed, reporting/unembeddable flows exist so that track can be avoided later — you should not wait for that during a party.
The in-room fix (do this first)
- Skip or remove the dead item. Do not refresh the whole site as host; you can drop the room.
- Search the title plus “karaoke” again.
- Pick a different channel’s upload — lyric video vs karaoke version vs another karaoke channel.
- Play that one. If it starts, leave the blocked one in the past.
Tell the guest who queued it: *not your fault, that upload blocks other sites.* Then they are not embarrassed.
If several results in a row fail, switch artist or pick from a Home category row that you already know played earlier tonight.
Empty queue vs dead video
If nothing is in Now playing, that is not an embed problem. Someone needs to add a song. First-night empty queues are covered in common mistakes.
If the player shows a title but no picture, treat it as embed/block and swap versions.
Sync and “everyone sees something different”
The host player is the timing source. Joiners should follow that. If one joiner’s video is stuck while the host hears music, that joiner should refresh their tab, not ask the host to refresh. If the host’s player is stuck, the host skips or re-adds.
After a bad network blip, one skip to the next healthy track is cleaner than three people reloading.
Audio but no lyrics, or lyrics but no vocal guide
That is the upload, not VideoKe settings. Different karaoke channels mix instrumental vs guide vocal vs lyric-only. Preview a few seconds after you add if the group is picky. Personal playlists should contain versions you have already seen work in a room — see playlists for a full night.
When the whole site seems down
If Home, Search, and Room all fail to load, that is connectivity or a deploy, not embedding. Check onlinekaraokeclub.com in a second browser. If only one video fails, it is that video.
What we will not promise
We cannot force a YouTube uploader to allow embeds. We cannot host a parallel pirate copy of the track. VideoKe is a room and a queue around playable embeds. Terms describe that third-party layer. If a song matters for the birthday person, find a working karaoke upload *before* they walk to the TV — that is a checklist item in the karaoke night checklist.
