Build personal playlists that last a full karaoke night
The worst karaoke queue is the one you build while twelve people watch a loading spinner. Personal playlists are how you hide that work in the afternoon. This is not a generic “make a Spotify playlist” article — it is how VideoKe lists behave in a room, including Play all, duplicates, and Recents.
Seed Recents on purpose
Recents fill when you queue a song in a room or open a video while signed in. They do not fill because you glanced at a Home category. If you want Recents to be useful tonight, open a few keepers from Search now, or run a tiny private room by yourself and add the tracks you know embed. Then leave. You just built a shortlist without guests.
That also tests embeds before the birthday person is waiting. When a video won’t play is cheaper at 4 p.m. than at 9 p.m.
Name lists like a host, not like a folder dump
Useful names:
- `Birthday — Mira 2026`
- `OPM group choruses`
- `Kids / family safe`
- `Late night slow`
Useless names: `Playlist 3`, `asdf`, `new new`. In the room sidebar you will see those names under pressure. Future-you will pick the wrong one and Play all a joke list.
Keep lists shorter than you think. Twelve songs that all work is better than forty you have never played in a VideoKe room. Play all dumps everything that is not already in the queue — a 40-song dump is how you steal the night from guests who wanted to add.
Energy, not just genre
A “90s” list can still be four ballads in a row. Interleave. If the night is mixed-age, keep a family-safe list separate from the after-kids-leave list so you are not skipping in front of a child. Mixed-age picks and birthday nights assume you did this split.
Building from the room
During a good night, bookmark keepers as they play. Gold bookmark means it is already in some list of yours. Save to a specific list from Now playing if you want the working embed version, not whatever Search shows next week.
Do not obsessively curate while you are supposed to approve joiners. Curation is an afternoon job. During the party, + and skip matter more.
Play all without being a dictator
Play all is for the first six tracks so the room is never silent, or for a themed block people asked for (“only OPM for 30 minutes”). After that, let humans add. If guest controls are off, you can still let them + onto the end of your preloaded block.
If Play all included a blocked embed, skip it like any other dead video. Remove it from the personal list later so it does not bite you next month.
Account vs guest
Guest sessions can hold lists on that device. They are a poor archive. If this is a recurring barkada night, sign in. Library mechanics: Library, playlists, ads, and subscriptions. After the host leaves, lists remain; the live queue does not — after the party.
A practical prep sequence
- Sign in.
- Create `Warmup (tested)`.
- Search five songs you will actually sing. Play each for five seconds in a throwaway room or video page. Save the ones that embed.
- Create the themed list if you need one.
- Close the test room.
- At party time, start the real room, Play all warmup (or + the first two), then send the code.
