After the party: recents, playlists, and closing the room
When the host leaves, the VideoKe room is over. That surprises people who think a karaoke “session” is a cloud object they can reopen tomorrow with the same code. It is not. Here is what is gone, what stays, and how to shut down without looking like you pulled the plug on someone mid-chorus.
What ends immediately
- The room code. It will not admit anyone later.
- The live queue, Now playing, and Up next.
- Room chat.
- Who was in the participant list.
- Anyone still pending. There is nothing left to approve.
Joiners who still have the tab open will see the host-left state. They cannot keep playing “the room” without you. If you only meant to grab ice, you have ended the night. Plug the laptop in *before* you start so you are not forced into this.
What you keep
Personal playlists you created or saved into stay in Library for that account or guest session.
Recents keep the unique tracks you actually used (queued or opened), newest first, capped. Recents are a memory, not a perfect diary. Category browsing on Home does not fill them.
Subscription and trial status are account-level. Leaving a room does not cancel a plan.
Closing without being abrupt
Finish the current song if you can. Say in chat or out loud: *last one, then I’m closing the room.* Then Leave room. If you are host, that is the close. Joiners should not have to guess whether you crashed or left.
If someone still wanted “one more,” they can have one more before you leave, not after. After, you would start a new room, new code, re-approve, and rebuild a short queue from Recents. That is a new night, even if it is ten minutes later.
Saving the night’s keepers
During the last two songs, bookmark the tracks that worked. Save the guest-of-honor’s karaoke version into `Birthday — name` so you are not hunting embeds next year. The version that played is the one you want, not a random Search result in twelve months. Personal playlists is the longer habit.
If you were a guest, your Recents are yours. The host’s lists are not shared automatically. Ask them to drop titles in the group chat if the group wants a repeat next week.
Switching devices
You cannot migrate a live room to another laptop. Close, reopen, new code. Warn people. This is why phone vs laptop says pick a device that stays powered.
Guests leaving
A joiner can leave without killing the room. Only host leave ends it. If the host needs a break but the party continues, the host has to stay in the room (laptop open). There is no “promote a new host” button. Plan bathroom breaks like a DJ who cannot leave the booth — or enable guest controls so someone else can skip while you step away *without* leaving the room.
Next week
Open Library, start from Recents or the named playlist, start a new room, send a new code. Privacy means codes are not souvenirs. Why rooms stay private.
